Prohibition on 10/22 Magazines over 10 rounds

In Blog, News by SeanG

We wanted to inform our customers about the new prohibition on high capacity magazines for the Ruger 10/22. The RCMP sent us a letter outlining this new prohibition last week. As official notice appears to be hard to come by, we thought it important to let you know. As of this week, according to the letter we received, all magazines designed for the Ruger 10/22 will need to be 10 rounds or less in Canada.

This prohibition results from the 10/22 magazine being compatible with the Ruger 22 Charger handgun. Handgun magazines can not exceed 10 rounds. Therefore all magazines, regardless of whether you own a Charger or not, must meet the restriction. This will especially affect the popular Butler Creek “Hot Lips” and “Steel Lips” magazines that house 25 rounds. As of this week, these magazines are prohibited.  If you own these mags, you can be charged unless you pin them. They are allowing 30 days from time of notice to get your magazine pinned.

Though yet to be tested in court, we don’t imagine you want to be the test case. Goble’s and our affiliates have removed our stock of this magazine from the shelves. We are currently testing pinning solutions for these magazines but are not yet providing this service for these mags as they’re plastic. We will let you know when we have an answer.
